Position Title: Education Naturalist
Salary: $29,500 (B.A./B.S.) $31,950 (M.A./M.S.) Plus free housing and some meals.
Responsibilities: Plan, organize, and conduct outdoor-oriented education classes for Schwarzkopf and surrounding counties. Classes will involve all ages but especially school children, as part of school programs, and 4-H campers in the summers. Advise management on education needs of the community as these needs relate to the environment. During slow periods of the year, the Education Naturalist may also prepare maps of the Center's properties.
Requirements: B.S./B.A. in Recreation, Biology, Conservation, or related discipline. Prefer the master's degree or some work toward it. Education courses and appropriate internship very helpful. Looking for a friendly, people-oriented individual with a love for the outdoors. Mapping skills are a plus. Ability to write (in order to seek grants) is a must. Please bring a clean sample of recent written work to the first interview. .
Other: The Center owns and operates eight different sites, including a working version of a nineteenth century farm. Most of the Education Naturalist's efforts will focus on the headquarters property, which occupies 1,564 acres on either side of the Desert Storm River. District employees enjoy excellent health, vacation, and incentive benefits. Education Naturalist must live on the headquarters property, in housing the Center provides. Residence has kitchen and laundry facilities. While campers are in residence, Naturalist may eat in the mess hall at no expense. Local taxes, grants, fees, and donations support Center activities, which began with a bequest from the Schwarzkopf Trust.
