Position Title: GPS Technician
Salary: $33K-$36K depending on qualifications. Company covers all travel expenses when they are job related.
Responsibilities: Surveying public roads and bridges throughout the United States and in select foreign countries, using state-of-the-art Global Positioning System technology, in search of information about infrastructure deterioration; mapping the resulting data; preparing reports for clients.
Requirements: B.S./B.A. in Geography, Cartography, or related field. Experience with geographic or cartographic software and real-time precise GPS positioning highly desirable. An understanding of cartographic methods and design very useful. Candidate must present a portfolio of computer-generated map products at the initial interview along with a clean sample of recent written work. Good oral communication skills are critical for this position. GPS or computer mapping internship could be vital in choosing among candidates. Must be in excellent physical condition and willing to undergo an annual company physical examination. Must possess or be able to obtain a valid United States passport. U. S. citizenship is mandatory.
Other: WEMAPIT, Inc., is a division of the WEKNOWITALL Corporation but operates rather independently of the parent company. Our GPS division headquarters is in the nation's third largest city so employees have access to world-class cultural, sports, and educational amenities. GPS Technicians are on the road (literally) for at least half the year, especially during the months March through October. Technicians gather most data from their vehicles, but they may have to spend some time on foot. Foreign travel is highly probable, once the employee has been on board for a couple of years. Salary bonuses for superior work are common for this job classification.
