Doing Geography is a bridge course because it provides students with a curricular link between introductory courses, such as World Geography, Human Geography, and Physical Geography, and upper division courses yet to occur for the Geography major or minor. Its only prerequisite is nine hours of Geography. The idea of this bridge course is to help students sharpen their view of the world from a geographical perspective, one in which the spatial or locational factor is a key attribute. Doing Geography features a variety of classroom, library, computer lab, and field topics. Most activities require individual effort, but some are group oriented. Graded work occurs in class and is due from homework at almost every meeting period. While there are no examinations, an individual research project serves as a culmination for the course. Students who attend regularly, arrive in a timely fashion, maintain a good learning attitude while in class, turn in assignments as required, and work to be better writers and source citers should do well in Doing Geography.
