PBI works to open a space for peace in which conflicts
can be dealt with non-violently. PBI teams don't try to impose solutions
from the outside. Instead, they provide moral support and a safer space
for local activists. PBI teams can pursue avenues not open to governments
or partisan organizations. Free of the strings attached to the U.N. and
other governmental bodies, our independent presence earns more trust from
local grassroots activists, helping them to endure despite severe repression.
PBI does not charge for its services and we do not fund individuals or
groups we accompany. While we may provide workshops and nonviolent training,
we do not take part in the work of those we accompany. Currently, Peace
Brigades International has long-term projects in Colombia, Indonesia/East
Timor, and Mexico, as well as joint projects with
other organizations in the Balkans and Chiapas, Mexico As stated in their mission statement, Peace
and Justice Studies Association (PJSA) is a community of educators,
activists and researchers working on alternatives to violence and war.
PJSA promotes methods of nonviolent social change among diverse
racial and socio-economic populations.
Founded in 1970 by a small group of teachers and scholars, PJSA
has grown to almost 500 institutional and individual members, including
K-12 educators, peace activists, conflict resolution practitioners, university
professors and clergy. PJSA has become a central hub for over 300
university degree programs in the study of peace and nonviolence in North
America and the North American affiliate of the International Peace Research
Association. This is one of the most important websites in Peace Studies and Conflict
Management. Some of the main links include: Search Peace Resource Center,
General Peace Documents, War and Peace Documents, Partners in Human Rights
Education, Recent Peace Accords, Humanitarian Law, International Criminal
Tribunals, University of Minnesota Human Rights Library, Peace and Activists
Links, Public Awareness, Media Outlets, Human Rights USA, Human Rights
Education, etc. It is important to notice that the University of Minnesota
Human Rights Center, with a grant from the Weyerhaeuser Family Foundation
and the United States Institute of Peace, presents the Peace Resource
Center. The Peace Resource Center hosts documents and links to further
the peace movement around the world through action, education, and information. Transnational
