Course Description:

The focus of this course will be on the psychoanalytics of teaching and learning. Thinking complexly about the desires, identities, and recognition needs of teachers and learners, we will reflect on our own experiences and practices, and discuss how an understanding of the rewards and resistances to learning can be mobilized into a more effective teaching practice. We will also discuss practical strategies and methods for conducting classroom research. So, in terms of an intellectual through-line, we will start with why we teach, we will consider what we teach, and we will then focus on how we teach.
