10/2: Class cancelled. For Tuesday, read The Golden Compass. Also, turn in papers on Tuesday. If you continue to work on them, make sure to record that in your process journal.

Senior Seminar Course Goals

  • To reflect formally on what you have accomplished as an English major, and to assess those accomplishments
  • To project into the future how those accomplishments connect to your personal and professional life beyond ISU
  • To make and assess connections among the various subdisciplines of English Studies (broadly: rhetoric, literature, and linguistics, but also including pedagogy)
  • To reflect formally on the various ways people use language to invest their world with meaning, organize knowledge, and manipulate power. 
  • To learn to read and think theoretically about texts and experiences
  • To expand our writing experiences through self-critique and revising old projects and/or exploring new ones

 Additional Goals for English Education Majors

  • To develop and refine a teaching philosophy

  • To understand how the skills I have learned in various courses will transfer to my experience as an English teacher
