  1. In what ways does the author accommodate his or her audience? Think about the style of the writing, the language, the format, the inclusion or exclusion of information, etc.
  2. How does the author establish his or her credibility? Does he or she describe the methodology of the research? How might you fact-check this book to test the author’s credibility?
  3. What sorts of apparatus (index, notes, bibliography, directions for further research) does the author include? How effective are they? What is missing?
  4. How does the format (use of pictures, text boxes, chapter divisions, etc.) work for you as a reader? What might have been different?
