Nonfiction Questions (for all books):
- In what ways does the author accommodate his or her
audience? In other words, how do you think the author modifies or shapes the
information into a format that young people will likely find interesting?
Think about the style of the writing, the language, the format, the inclusion
or exclusion of information, etc.
- How does the author establish his or her credibility?
Does he or she describe the methodology of the research? How might you
fact-check this book to test the author’s credibility?
- What sorts of apparatus (index, notes, bibliography,
directions for further research) does the author include? How effective are
they? What is missing?
- How does the format (use of pictures, text boxes,
chapter divisions, etc.) work for you as a reader? What might have been
different?
