Course Description:

In this course, we will examine what I call "the stories we can't stop telling ourselves." These are our foundational stories, stories that we tell our children to pass on our cultural and ideological heritage. Stories of passion, empire, fortune, salvation. Stories where we are brave, smart, lucky, strong.   Stories that tell us what it means to live happily ever after. We will explore these stories across genre and through time, and think about what these stories are trying to tell us what we believe about ourselves and what we hope for our children.
