Each assignment that requires you to hand in something has a regular due date, found in the RIGHT column.  You should complete assignments by their deadlines.  No work is accepted past the deadline unless you obtain permission.  (See grading policies.)  If there is nothing in the far right column, nothing is to be prepared for handing in that day (but there still could be a quiz in class that day).

This classic will complete our reading on compatibilism. Write brief answers to these: 1) What concept of moral responsibility is suggested by Strawson? 2) Why does his position count as a version of compatibilism?
Here are the instructions for writing the second essay. It will be due 10/29, so plan ahead.

on morality without MR
These sections of the text present Pereboom's reasons for believing that abandoning MR entirely would result in a better social situation. The Machina reading (that was already discussed at the beginning of the semester) challenges some aspects of Pereboom's argument, while agreeing with other aspects. None

Tue. 11/10 Vargas, "Revisionism", in text. Sections 1 - 3. The key is to get a handle on what Vargas is up to, and how his project differs from those of the earlier authors. You might ask yourself, Is this really a different approach to the problem?
