1. One of the big points that Geertz makes, as an anthropologist, is that religions always seem to include both "metaphysics" and "ethos", and that these "mutually support" one another. Try to say briefly, in your own words, what this means.
2. Why do you suppose Geertz has never found a religion that consisted solely of ethos, with no accompanying metaphysics?
Notice that Geertz separates "worldview" from "ethos". We will not be doing that in this course. We will be using "worldview" to include not only beliefs but also the accompanying attitudes toward life that he refers to as "ethos". Don't let this cause confusion.
