IDS 254: Note about the scores at the top of the midterm exams that were handed back on Thurs. the 30th

There are two totals shown at the top of the first page of the exam. One of the totals is the total number of points earned on the exam. There were 20 points possible. The handout on Thursday explained how the exams were graded, and how to interpret your score.

There is also another number on the top of the first page. That number is supposed to show you how many total points you have for all the things that have been graded so far this semester. It's the number that follows "Tot =". There were 45 points possible up to now.

Unfortunately, some of those overall totals are incorrect.  The ones that are incorrect are far too low, because they do not include any of the points earned for study questions and quizzes. At this point it is unclear just what happened to create these errors, since the totals were automatically generated by the grading spreadsheet, and spreadsheets are supposed to know how to add! So, there is a hidden technical problem with the spreadsheet. It will get fixed and new totals will be generated that are correct. These will be available on Tuesday.

In the meantime, don't get upset if the total makes it seem as though you are failing the course when you thought you were earning a much higher grade.
