Kant Essay 4

The topic

One of the major issues of Kant's time is the same as one of the major issues of our own culture: has empirical investigation of the world eliminated the rational appeal of religious belief systems (such as Christian belief systems) that include a traditional conception of God?

Kant argues for a negative answer.  That is, he sees belief in God to still be rationally relevant despite the fact that knowledge of God lies forever beyond human grasp.

Your topic to write about:

How successful is Kant's approach to this issue?  If you think he is not successful, where did he go wrong?  If he is successful, explain how and why.

Instructions

This is to be a longer essay -- maybe 2000 words or more.  So, dig in.  Outside research is appropriate but not required.  The usual cautions apply: if you quote or paraphrase, give a full citation.  If you just get a really neat idea from somewhere, give credit appropriately.

If you want to write about something else, that might be possible, but you will need to negotiate an agreement about the topic first.
