During Monday's lecture we identified some controversial,
if not interesting, questions that could be explored with the class survey
data we have collected. You may recall that one student suggested that
we explore whether Cubs fans were smarter than Sox fans (or vice versa).
Our first step in answering this question should be to compare the
distributions of GPAs for these groups. Follow the link below to view
the histograms of GPAs for Cubs and Sox fans. Comment on the shape,
center, spread and any unusual feature for each histogram. Can you
make any firm conclusions, which group is "smarter"?

If you have some spare time prior to class next Monday,
follow this link to the class
survey data (notice the first worksheet contains a copy of the original
questionnaire, while the second worksheet contains the actual data
collected.) Do you notice any interest facts, patterns or trends in
the data? Also attempt to identify interesting questions that we could
explore using this data. For example, in past semesters I have noticed
that my female students are more likely to be Cubs fans, so I'm interesting
in determining whether this trend holds true again this semester.
