The Map Use Commission of the
International Cartographic Association
1995 - 1999
At the 1995 General Assembly of the International Cartographic Association in Barcelona the Map Use Commission was established, with Dr. James Carter, USA, Chair, and Dr. Milan Konecny, Czech Republic, Co-Chair. In the previous four years this was the Map and Spatial Data Use Commission under the same leadership.
After eight years as Chair, I decided to step down and turn the duties over to someone else. Dr. Michael Peterson, USA, took up the reins. Under his leadership the decision was made to change the name of the Commission to The Internet and Its Maps. Obviously, the focus will be on the new map use environment of the Internet.
Map Use continues as a emphasis both within the ICA and on my pages. Follow these links to the many pages of the ICA and my personal statement on map use as well as the updated pages on map use.
Note: The effort to build these pages is on-going. If you have something to
contribute, or would like to make comments, please contact: Dr. James R. Carter, Illinois
