You will write a one- to two-page, double-spaced, typed summary and critique of what you believe to be the cultural value of the eventHow does this event enrich your life culturally as a student and a thoughtful and responsible citizen?  What does it add to your experience that you might not otherwise have experienced?  How does it make you aware of the diversity and value of culture in America (or elsewhere)?

You should look definitions of culture and choose one that fits your event.  You should also show how this event fits that definition.

You can also do community service:

A. If anyone is offering students an opportunity to do community service
instead of or along with attending university programs, let me mention that
Funks Grove and ParkLands have work days in September and October. The
work days are on Saturday mornings, and transportation will be provided.
This is a wonderful opportunity for students to be exposed to the "natural"
sciences in the field. As you probably know, Funks Grove is also an
historical site. Volunteers will be collecting seeds and working on other
restoration activities.

B.  October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and our local affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation will be doing a number of things to raise awareness and funds.
I'm on the Komen board and I know that any student interested in this cause
would be welcomed to volunteer. Just send them to me and I'll introduce
them to the possibilities and the people.
