August, 2010  Habitat Campus Chapter of the Year Award

Illinois Wesleyan and Illinois State Universities’ joint student chapter of Habitat for Humanity has been selected for the 2010 Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter of the Year award.

Impressed by the universities’ creative partnership, the selection committee chose to award the chapters jointly, noting that the collaboration of the chapters allows for an increased impact on the community. Through the generous support of State Farm Insurance Company, the chapters will receive $4,500 together to participate in a Collegiate Challenge trip.

“The work you have done to provide simple, decent and affordable housing and spread Habitat for Humanity’s mission is extraordinary and serves as an outstanding example for other chapters,” said Manager of Youth Volunteer Engagement Cody Logsdon in a letter to the chapters.

The student chapters will be recognized for their accomplishments at the 2010 Awards Banquet at the Youth Leadership Conference in October.

ISU/IWU Habitat for Humanity the groundbreaking for the 17th annual Collegiate home to be built with the Susan Giermann family on 404 East Douglas St. in Bloomington.  Festivities start at noon. All are invited.

January 20th, 2010- Clinker Classic donates $750!

ISU Habitat is excited to announce that participants of the Clinker Classic Annual Golf Tournament donated the generous amount of $750 to our organization. This is the second year that members of the golf tournament have donated and we are happy and very thankful to have their support!

October 31, 2009 Sixth Annual Trick or Treat for Change raises over $16,000!

ISU/IWU Habitat for Humanity is very proud to announce that the official total for 2009 Trick or Treat for Change is $16,143.78!!! Thank you so much to all of our fabulous student volunteers who went trick-or-treating, to the Bloomington-Normal community for their amazing and generous support and a special thanks to the ISU Leadership and Service Unit.

October 23, 2009 ISU/IWU Habitat Receives Grant from Bike & Build, Inc.

We are excited to announce that we have received a generous grant of over $7,300 from Bike & Build, Inc.! Thank you so much to Bike & Build, Inc. for their continued support of ISU/IWU Habitat for Humanity!

August 29, 2009 ISU\IWU Habitat to build 2 homes

Groundbreaking for the 15th and 16th ISU\IWU Collegiate homes will take place at noon on August 29th near the corner of Lumber and W. Grove Street in Bloomington (see map). These will be the first LEED-certified homes in McLean County.

April 18, 2009 - Montgomery Home House Blessing

On Saturday April 18th, the 14th ISU\IWU Collegiate Home Houseblessing was held at 415 W. Vernon Street -- the site of the Amanda Montgomery family's new home.  Planning is now underway for the 15th and 16th homes, which will be the first LEED-certified homes in McLean County.

October 11, 2008 - New Record!

The ISU and IWU volunteers set a new record for finishing the roof, one month earlier than any of the previous homes. (see photos above).

October 10, 2008 -- Bike and Build contributes $5,860

April 19, 2008 Houseblessing!!

The official houseblessing of Kurt and Sarina Peavler's new home,  the 13th consecutive student-built ISU-IWU Habitat for Humanity home took place on Saturday.  See our photo gallery click on "21 Richwood Trail" (on the left).  With the receipt of a $10,000 award from State Farm Insurance, the two chapters reach their goal of raising %50,000 for the home.

November 29, 2007 New Chipotle sponsors fundraiser.

A gourmet burrito and drink for a $5 donation, all proceeds to benefit the collegiate home.

November 18, 2007 Paintball event raises $600

All the proceeds from a day of paintballing at Sudden Impact in Mclean were donated
                     the ISU \ IWU Collegiate Home.

November 17, 2007  Roof Done!

The critical construction goal for the Collegiate Home is to get the roof done
before it snows.

The Noodles Restaurant on main street donates $200!!!.

October 20, 2007 Class raises over $1,000

The ISU Politics and Government Community Service Seminar sponsored a Bags Tournament on October 20th.
The event and other fundraising activities raised $1,130.

October 31, 2007  Trick or Treat raises $15,290

Over 400 hundred ISU and IWU students participated in the annual Trick or Treat for Change on Halloween night.  The students raised over $10,000 that night (half the amount in coins) and a late contribution from a member of the ISU Board of Trustees raised the total over $15,000.

 

September 8, 2007: Groundbreaking!

The official groundbreaking of the 13th consecutive student-built ISU-IWU Habitat for Humanity House Saturday, September 8, 12:00 p.m. 21 Ridgewood Trail, Woodbury Estates Subdivision, off Miller Road in Bloomington, IL.

April 22, 2007:  Outstanding!

Kellie Gilliland, president of the ISU Habitat for Humanity student chapter, 2005-2007, receives the Outstanding Student Leader of the Year Award at the Twelfth annual Student Involvement Recognition Ceremony sponsored by the Dean of Students office and the Student Alumni Council.

April 21, 2007: Houseblessing

The completion of the 12th consecutive ISU\IWU Collegiate Home was celebrated with the houseblessing Cynthia and Rakeem Harris' home in the Woodbury estates subdivision in Bloomington.  The two student chapters raised over $40,000 to support the construction of the home -- a new record.
