        Title: Quantum Vertex Algebras

Abstract: Vertex Algebras are in a sense commutative algebras with singular         multiplication and with infinitesimal translation symmetry. When one replaces commutativity by braided commutativity, and also breaks the infinitesimal translation symmetry one gets (one specific type of) quantum vertex algebras. Explicit examples can be constructed using bicharacters. As an application one obtains the quantum vertex operators known from the theory of Hall-Littlewood symmetric polynomials.
This is joint work with Iana Anguelova (CRM, Montreal).

  • October 5, 2006

        Speaker: Wenhua Zhao, ISU

Title: The Jacobian Conjecture and Orthogonal Polynomials

Abstract: We will discuss some connections of the Jacobian conjecture with some classical
orthogonal polynomials (especially with the Gegenbauer's polynomials). Some open
problems raised by the Jacobian conjecture on orthogonal polynomials
will also be discussed.

        Time & location: 1pm-4pm at STV 308

  Time: 1pm-2pm

Speaker: Haisheng Li (Department of Mathematical Sciences, Rutgers University at Camden)

Title: Quantum vertex algebras and their modules

    Abstract:
This talk is about quantum vertex algebra---a notion closely related to (but different from) Etingof-Kazgdan's notion of quantum vertex operator algebra. In this talk, we shall present the definition and a general construction of quantum vertex algebras and their modules by using (formal) vertex operators. Then, we discuss examples of quantum vertex algebras associated with certain twisted Weyl-Clifford algebras and Zamolodchikov-Faddeev algebras.

    Time: 2:10pm-2:50pm

    Open discussion

    Time: 3pm-4pm

Speaker: Chongying Dong (Department of Mathematics, University of California at Santa Cruz)

Title: Representation theory of vertex operator algebras

Abstract: We will report recent progress on the representation theory of vertex operator algebras. We will mainly discuss the essential equivalence between the rationality of a vertex operator algebra and the semi-simplicity of its Zhu algebra.

  • November 9, 2006

       Speaker: Michal Morayne, ISU

Title: Semigroups of continuous and Lipschitz mappings

  • November 16, 2006

       Speaker: Michal Morayne, ISU

Title: Semigroups of continuous and Lipschitz mappings Part II

  • November 30, 2006

       Speaker: Lucian Ionescu, ISU

Title: The Feynman Legacy: past, present and future

Abstract: Starting from the role of graph complexes in deformation quantization, I will present an introduction to PROPs and operads, towards Feynman categories and Feynman processes.

  • December 7, 2006

       Speaker: Lucian Ionescu, ISU

Title: Introduction to PROPs and operads, with applications to physics.

Abstract: Operads and PROPs are presented, together with examples and applications
to quantum physics suggesting the structure of Feynman categories/PROPs and
the corresponding algebras.
