Lab 8: Formatting a Scatterplot

read: JPDA, pp72-74

Download these data and construct a scatterplot that looks like this:

  • To do the scatterplot, you need two variables, one independent and one dependent.
  • Highlight the columns of two variables (the dependent is always on the right)
  • From the menu: Insert | scatterplot
  • to do the trendline: click on the chart and select:
    Layout | Analysis | Trendline -- linear

To add labels to your chart:

  • save and close all excel files
  • right click and download this charttools file to your desktop
  • go to your desktop and open the charttools file.
  • then open your original Excel file
  • Click on the chart
  • from the Menu, select "Add-ins" and the charttools add-in.
  • With the charttools add-in enter the range of the data labels.
  • format the data series so that there are no markers
  • format the data labels so that they are centered.

Construct the scatterplot, upload the Excel file to Webboard
