Discussion: "Does Santa
Claus have a soft spot for Wall Street?... it would appear so. Since
1970, the DJIA has averaged a 4.3% gain from December 1st through
January 31st. That would equate to ~430 points, based on this year's
December 1st level in the Dow. Note that this year-end or Santa Claus
Rally has been much stronger over the last 31 years (the average gain
for the 70 years prior to 1970 was a measly 1.7%). And, of course,
there's no guarantee that Christmas tidings will be cheerful.... but
traditionally we are entering a seasonally strong period, and so far
this season appears to be starting off on the right foot."
